Ethanol Extraction
09Mar2019
I am going to try out the 2 main methods which are : Steam Distillation and Ethanol Extraction
This post will show why I chose the Ethanol Extraction method for making the smell of Cannabis/Tobacco.
BUDAPEST
Steam Distillation
Ethanol Extraction

FOOD INGREDIENTS
The smell of dishes always makes me think of HOME, they are usually the smell of garlic+ginger

PLANTS-BASED
Tobacco Leaf and weed are plants-based ingredients, the Ethonal Extraction Method fits

OILY-smell
Will try to add fried peanut oil into alcohol before trying distillation// Chinese Dishes are also looking for freshness, the control of heat(火候)

NOTES

- dropper
Ethanol Extraction = essential oil + alcohol base
WHY
In order to make the cannabis psychoactive, the leaf have to be decarboxylated.
Boiling water (100C degrees) is not a high enough temperature to make this change.
HOW

The thermally unstable THCA transforms when provoked by heat.
Steam Distillation>
Decarboxylation is "the process of removing the carboxylic acid group from a cannabinoid, a change that enhances its ability to interact with the body".
Some comments from online forums suggested that to bake the leafs at 240F degrees for about 40 minutes// Also adding oil to absorbs the THC.

ESSENTIAL OIL
Before Step One, I should heat up the leafs first.
Instead of baking them, I'd try frying them.

THE BASE
-Alcohol and cannabis tend to potentiate each other
67% of the THCA will convert to THC in an ethanol extraction.

Click
-There's actually cocktails with cannabis blended
SUMMARY
Pan fry cannabis leafs
Used fried leaf to produce the essential oil
Soak fried leaf in alcohol to create the base
